What is the difference between communism and capitalism? Communism works.
China’s railway authorities gave the public its first glimpse of a superfast maglev train this week in Beijing. The vehicle, which is currently undergoing testing, could cut travel times in half, according to experts. Photo: Handout - The South China Morning Post

The old, always unfunny joke of Western anti-communists is enjoying a new lease of life. Only the tables have turned. While Deutsche Bahn in my region considers itself incapable of electrifying the railway lines (!), China's high-speed trains will soon be traveling at 400 km/h.

The South China Morning Post even reports a new type of train that is supposed to travel at a standard speed of 600 km/h (373 mph). This is not just a funny detail of industrial history, but simply the current situation. It's not that China is suddenly reaching the finish line quickly, but rather that the West still doesn't even have the prerequisites to participate in the race.

Beijing to Shanghai in 2½ hours: the maglev marvel redefining high-speed rail
Public debut of 600km/h (373mph) superfast train will slash journey times as China builds out its high-speed rail network.

It seems much smarter for Germany to spend 50% of its budget on weapons and tanks. Super sustainable, forward-thinking. Then we can shoot at the future. Maybe it will stay away, and we can continue riding from castle to castle in knight's armour. Well, a few of us will, while the rest will probably go hungry.
